Voice chips are now used in large and small components, and more and more products begin to develop towards intelligent integration. Voice chip is popular in the market because of its main characteristics of low power consumption, few peripheral devices, easy operation, strong anti-interference, long voice storage time and continuous power failure. However, there are many kinds of voice chips. How to distinguish and choose when we need to use them? Nine core electronic Xiaobian will write down your feelings on how to select the type today.

Voice chip is the general name of recording chip and playback chip

In terms of function, voice chip can be basically divided into recording voice chip and playback voice chip. When designing a product using voice chip, we should first consider whether to use recording live voice. If it is necessary to record voice, select the voice chip with recording function, otherwise select the voice chip with playback function only. Usually, the voice chip with recording function has the function of playing back voice, but when playing voice, the sound quality is not as good as the special playback voice chip, so when selecting the voice chip, we should weigh the factors such as function and sound quality.

Security system, meeting recording system, recording toys and other products are required to have recording function. Recording voice chips are used in the development of this type of products. Nine core electronic chips with recording function include n9200a, n9200b, nr9600, etc. Nr7100s and n880x recording modules developed by recording chip have simpler peripheral circuits and better effect. Such as recording modules, these modules use external flash ROM as the storage center, so they can record voice for a longer time.

Selection of storage mode OTP ROM, flash ROM and EEPROM

The playback chip can be divided into OTP ROM, flash ROM, EEPROM and mask according to the storage mode.

OTP (one time programmable) refers to a one-time programmable voice chip. Voice can only be burned once. It is suitable for applications where there is no need to modify voice and the voice length is short. The playback length can be divided into 10 seconds, 20 seconds, 40 seconds, 80 seconds, 170 seconds and 340 seconds. OTP voice chip is characterized by single chip scheme and low price. It is suitable for small and medium-sized batch production. Even if it is produced in a small quantity, it can get the goods in time. It is mainly used in low-end toys, electronic organ, electric vehicle and other products.

The commonness of flash ROM and EEPROM is that they can be rewritten repeatedly, have large storage space, can change the control mode and voice content at will, and can store larger voice files. EEPROM is usually integrated into the chip. The price of this type of voice chip is relatively expensive. Generally, the flash ROM that can be external is 1mbit ~ 32mbit. Because it needs to use "voice chip + Flash" to work, the price is slightly higher than that of OTP, but the overall price is lower than that of EEPROM. It is suitable for sample preparation or T small batch production. The nine core voice chips using flash ROM include n588d, NVC series, etc.

In terms of sound quality and sound length, the length of the selected speech chip is determined by the audio sampling rate and the internal (or external) rom space of the chip. The size of the audio sampling rate directly affects the sound quality of the audio output. The higher the audio sampling rate of the same type of chip, the better the sound quality, but it needs to occupy more ROM space. The cost of the chip also increases in different ranges due to the increase of storage space. For example, nine core voice chip NVC series is divided into nv020c, nv040c, nv080c and nv180c.

If the requirements for sound quality are high and the recording length is long, a customized voice chip can be selected.
